Neighborhood of Affordable Housing (NOAH) is seeking a dedicated AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America Assistant) to further our ability to assist diverse at-risk no-/low-income households obtain or maintain secure apartment homes, with a focus on those who are newly threatened with potential homelessness through eviction or an emergency such as fire, flood or building collapse.

The duties for this position will focus on working with NOAH's housing stability case managers to help to strengthen the program in its work to assist clients in avoiding homelessness or helping already homeless residents in securing housing.

Specific duties to be completed before year end include:

  • Create a database of landlords with potentially available units as well as research new open apartment listings weekly;
  • Help document the current service-system, make suggestions for possible improvements, and revise/develop a program handbook;
  • Edit/update all client documents and application forms, and help translate these materials
  • into other languages;
  • Assist in client data tracking and reporting, as well as client outreach/scheduling;
  • Search for new possible hotel block contracts to provide immediate shelter for the newly homeless (including fire/flood victims, new immigrant families, and/or parents and children who have just been evicted), and tracking contact info for future use by others;
  • Research key essential resources for residents in the areas of food, utility assistance, heating assistance, rental arrearage payments, furniture provision, as well as other non-profit agencies and/or shelters; and document means of doing same;
  • Research and develop a chart/playbook for housing search resources; and research and develop a charting tool/playbook for the housing search process in Boston.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Be 18 years or older (no upper age limit)
  • Hold one of the following citizenship or legal residency statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card status), and persons legally residing within a state. Examples of persons legally residing within a state may include those holding the following classifications: refugee, asylee, temporary protected status throughout VISTA service, and holding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status.
