The Parish House is open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and the first Saturdays of the month and by appointment. But, we are wanting to expand the days we are open and need a few more docents to help with that endeavor.
Trained docents are responsible for opening the house to the public by turning on all the lights in all rooms on the main level and display rooms in the basement, unlocking doors, posting the "open" sign outside, and ensuring that the house is in order. When a visitor arrives, the docent will greet guests and have them sign the guestbook.
Generally, the tour starts with the viewing of a 15-minute video tour in the Visitor’s Center, followed by a tour of the Parish House and Museum, starting at the front steps. The docent provides a tour through the house and answers questions, as needed.
Before leaving for the day, the open sign is placed back inside the front porch, lights are turned off, and any running fans are turned off during the summer. The house is again locked and the alarm is activated.

Mission Statement
The Johnstown Historical Society enriches our community through the preservation, interpretation, and dissemination of collected local culture.
Description
The Johnstown Historical Society was founded in 1988 to educate the public about Johnstown's unique history and preserve it for future generations. JHS manages the Historic Parish House and Museum at 701 Charlotte Street in Johnstown, Colorado. We have an awesome group of dedicated volunteers and are always looking for new ones to join our teams that perform a variety of tasks to help us with the museum and several great fundraising events each year.
A few of our events are the annual and very well attended Stitches in Time Quilt and Craft Fair, our History and Mystery Cemetery Crawl, and Holiday open house. We're also expanding our open days at the museum and are currently seeking a few volunteer docents. We have other volunteer opportunities as well. We'd love to hear from you!

- Time is flexible. Docents can work on any open days they sign up for. We need a couple of docents for each day we're open. They may also assist with offsite presentations. We often dress up in early 1900s attire for special tours.
- Docents need to be able to engage with our guests, so people skills and a friendly nature are traits we look for in our tour guides. Training sessions help to give new docents confidence in their ability to speak about local history to our guests.
