I. Organizational Purpose and Background

Yavapai County Community Health Services (YCCHS) is the health department in Yavapai County. The mission of YCCHS states: "Yavapai County Community Health Services will provide leadership, information, and services that contribute to improving the health and well-being of Yavapai County residents." The AmeriCorps member would work with the Public Health Emergency Preparedness division, which plans for public health threats and emergencies, including natural disasters such as floods, wildfires, disease outbreaks, and terrorism events. They would be responsible for marketing and recruitment for the Medical Reserve Corps, a group of medical and non-medical volunteers that assists YCCHS during times of disaster and community events.

II. Project Focus Areas and Activities

A. Volunteer Recruitment

The AmeriCorps member will actively engage with the community by attending local events, health fairs, and meetings to promote and recruit Medical Reserve Corps volunteers. They will develop strategic partnerships with community agencies to expand the pool of potential volunteers. The AmeriCorps member will play a vital role in enhancing program visibility and engagement through dynamic social media campaigns. They will leverage Canva to create engaging content, including eye-catching graphics, videos, and interactive posts. The member will also develop and distribute newsletters.

B. Systems Management

The AmeriCorps member will ensure accurate and up-to-date information for Medical Reserve Corps members within the database. They will conduct data clean-up projects and conduct outreach to the Medical Reserve Corps volunteers to update their personal records. They will contribute to the review of procedures. Furthermore, the AmeriCorps member will organize program supplies, including pamphlets and training materials, to ensure seamless program operations.

C. Emergency Preparedness

In the event of a public health emergency such as a wildfire, the AmeriCorps member will work as a phone bank operator, providing essential information and resources to community members seeking assistance. They will actively contribute to the continuous improvement and re-writing of emergency plans. They may also be called upon to support the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during emergencies.

III. Requirements and Benefits

A. Education, Skills, and Abilities

● High school diploma or equivalent.

● 18 years or older, no upper age limit. All ages are welcome and

encouraged to apply

● Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Internet-based communications

● Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting in a

consistent, energetic, positive manner

● Strong organizational and time management skills

● Group facilitation and public speaking skills

● Strong skills in utilizing social media

● Self-motivated; ability to work with minimal supervision

● Effective problem-solving skills

● Ability and desire to work with a variety of individuals

● Ability to understand the "big picture" while completing detail-oriented tasks

● Friendly and effective interpersonal skills

● Consistent and reliable access to a vehicle required

B. AmeriCorps Public Health Corps Member Benefits (part-time)

● Living Allowance - $10,000 for a year of service

● Segal Education Award - $3,247.50 (upon successful completion of service hours)
