Company: Think Round

Think Round is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting social and environmental justice through innovative projects and initiatives. We are currently working on the virtual build of two significant projects: The Paradise Project and The Center for the Human Family. We are seeking a passionate and talented volunteer intern to join our team as a 3D Animator and/or 3D Modeler to contribute to the development of these virtual projects.

Role Overview:

As a volunteer intern 3D Animator and/or 3D Modeler, you will work closely with our project team to create and animate detailed 3D models for The Paradise Project and The Center for the Human Family. Your primary responsibilities will include designing, modeling, and animating various objects, environments, and characters within the virtual space. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of 3D animation and modeling while contributing to meaningful projects that align with our organization's mission.

  1. 3D Modeling: Create high-quality, detailed 3D models of objects, environments, and characters for The Paradise Project and The Center for the Human Family, adhering to the project's artistic direction and specifications.

  2. Texturing and Material Creation: Apply textures and materials to 3D models to enhance realism and visual appeal, ensuring consistency with the project's style guide.

  3. Rigging and Animation: Rig and animate 3D models, including characters and objects, to bring them to life within the virtual environment, following established animation principles and guidelines.

  4. Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the project team, including artists, designers, and developers, to understand requirements, provide input, and ensure seamless integration of 3D assets into the virtual projects.

  5. Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough testing and debugging to identify and address any issues related to 3D assets, ensuring they meet the project's quality standards and performance requirements.

  6. Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of the 3D asset creation process, including models, textures, materials, and animations, to facilitate future revisions and updates.

  • Solid understanding of 3D modeling, animation, and rigging techniques, demonstrated through a portfolio or previous work samples.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard 3D software such as Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, or equivalent.
  • Experience with texture painting and material creation.
  • Familiarity with animation principles and the ability to bring 3D models to life through animation.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within a team.
  • Passion for social and environmental justice, as well as a genuine interest in contributing to the mission of Think Round.

Please note that this is a volunteer intern position, and while it does not offer financial compensation, it provides valuable experience, an opportunity to build a professional portfolio, and the chance to make a positive impact through meaningful projects.

If you are excited about using your 3D animation and modeling skills to contribute to The Paradise Project and The Center for the Human Family, we encourage you to apply for this position.

About Think Round, Inc.

2140 Bush St. Apt. 1, San Francisco, CA 94115, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to demonstrate life's fullest potential through the arts and sciences, especially where environmental concerns meet neighborhoods.

Think Round, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 2004 by Heidi Hardin. Think Round is also an E-verify employer seeking art students of all types. Heidi is a fine artist who served as an original member of SF’s Hunters Point Shipyard (HPS) artists & the Citizen’s Advisory Committee for Reuse of HPS. Since 1992, Heidi has created & implemented nationally acclaimed art & science programs for children & their families in Bayview Hunters Point. Teaching art & science, & community history, & serving as museum artist at the deYoung, shaped her vision art that tells a multifaceted story of family, faith, community & culture. Think Round’s programs reflect the same core concerns that guide her own artwork: a deep love of humankind & the planet.

The heart of Think Round’s programs is The Human Family Tree/A Walk Through Paradise (Paradise), a multimedia art installation. Paradise is a collaboration of visionaries that includes paintings, original music, & finds common threads in diverse families, ethnicities & cultures. It draws from Hardin’s work: empowering children, youth & families through art & science. A permanent home for Paradise & for related experiential programs that advance Think Round’s commitment to education is The Center for the Human Family. The current form of The Center for the Human Family is Think Round Fine Arts where artists, who champion Think Round values, show & discuss their art. "Earth is home. Humans are family."
