It is that time of year again, the Anne Arundel County Back to School Program! Remember how you felt on your first day of school with your new notebooks, pencils, and backpack? Share that memory with a child who needs your help. We have a multitude of ways you can volunteer, whether you are looking for a group volunteer project, looking for a few community service hours, or you would like to volunteer with your children.

Ways to Volunteer
1) Help stuff backpacks with the supplies and distributing those backpacks to schools around Anne Arundel county.
2) Office assistant helping manage emails and phone calls coming in regarding the program.
3) Help matching donors to families in need. (would be best to have someone proficient in excel)

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or have any questions, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Stephanie Cahill at stephanie.cahill@maryland.gov.

About Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services

Location:

80 West Street, Annapolis, MD 21401, US

Mission Statement

The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Sevices will assist County residents to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency; provide services to strengthen individuals and families; and join our community partners in the protection of vulnerable children and adults.

Description

Our government agency assists people in need by administering a wide range of public assistance programs. Primarily, we help low-income people as well as families and children in crises.

We help low-income county residents access food stamps, medical assistance and temporary cash assistance. And, we help them pay their heating bills when they lack the income to pay it themselves. We also collect and distribute child support payments.

In addition, we investigate allegations of child/adult abuse and neglect. Too often, the silent victims of family violence and volatile family dynamics are children. When necessary, we remove children from their families - either temporarily or for the long term - when the children are not being properly cared for by their families.

The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services is the local office of the Maryland Department of Human Resources (DHR).
