Our volunteers are vital to the success of our hospice program. Whether you are visiting with a patient, playing a game, reading a book, or just keeping company --the impact you make on a patient is immeasurable. Learn how to make a difference by becoming a Compassus volunteer: https://bit.ly/3yQ67xX

An effective hospice volunteer should have a compassionate and kind attitude toward their patients. They should strive to provide comfort and support for both the patient and their family members. They should be reliable, punctual, and prepared for the tasks assigned to them. Good communication skills are essential in this role, and hospice volunteers should have a good understanding of hospice services, as well as the hospice philosophy of care, taught during training. Finally, hospice volunteers should be non-judgmental and respectful towards patients and their families.

Additional qualities of an effective hospice volunteer include:

  • Good listener
  • Dependable
  • Patient
  • Flexible
  • Empathetic and open
  • Willing to serve, whether directly with families or behind the scenes

By having these qualities, hospice volunteers can provide quality care to those in need of hospice services, as well as support for their families. Their presence can be a great source of comfort and help to both the patient and family members during this difficult time.

About Hospice Compassus

5005 Bowling St. Suite B, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404, US

Mission Statement

The Mission of Hospice Compassus is to honor life and offer hope to individuals facing a life-limiting illness by supporting them with compassion, integrity and excellence. We have offices in Davenport, Washington, Cedar Falls, and Cedar Rapids and see clients all over Eastern Iowa!

Hospice offers peace and comfort to patients and their families by reducing the stress, pain and other symptoms of a serious illness. Hospice care includes medical, emotional, social and spiritual support.

Many believe hospice is only for the final days or hours of life. This is not true. Hospice is not about dying; it's about helping patients and their families live as well as they can when life expectancy is limited.
