Recruiting Organization: Oregon Health Authority AmeriCorps VISTA Partnership Project

This position joins Oregon Health Authority’s statewide AmeriCorps VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. This position is with the Health Security, Preparedness and Response Program. The mission of the HSPR Program is to develop public health systems to prepare for and respond to major and acute threats and emergencies that impact the health of people in Oregon. Member Duties: The AmeriCorps VISTA will support research and development of assessment tools for coordinated state and local integration of health and medical (Emergency Support Function 8) supports to mass sheltering (Emergency Support Function 6) activities. The overall goal of the project will be to progress equity in emergency response for persons experiencing poverty, rapid needs identification, assessment and delivery of medical supports needed to maintain medical stability in a mass care sheltering environment. This project is in support of OHA's goal of public health modernization to eliminate health inequities by 2030.

Summary Objective Elements:

1. Research and compile public health and medical risk assessment tools and present

2. Research and compile community health risk assessments, gap analysis and present

3. Participate in creating or updating planning documents

4. Develop a toolkit for use by state and local responders

5. Write a whitepaper presenting findings; present and publish
