This position joins Oregon Health Authority’s statewide AmeriCorps VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. Selections are made on a rolling basis and early applications are strongly encouraged. The last day to submit an application is July 14, 2023. The Oregon public health system includes federal, tribal, state, and local agencies, private organizations and other diverse partners working to protect and promote the health of all Oregonians and the places we live, work, play, learn and age. This position is with the Health Security, Preparedness and Response Program (HSPR). The mission of the HSPR Program is to develop public health systems to prepare for and respond to major and acute threats and emergencies that impact the health of people in Oregon. This position is based in Portland, home to Oregon’s largest cultural hub. The exceptional public transit system makes it easy explore and appreciate everything the city has to offer. Member Duties: The member will incorporate voices of low-income and vulnerable populations into statewide public health emergency preparedness planning and response for the Oregon Health Authority through the following:

1) Use an equity and poverty alleviation lens to revise the statewide public health hazard vulnerability analyses

2) Revise statewide plans, planning tools and MOUs following equity principles to incorporate the needs of low-income populations

3) Connect with work being done in other sections of OHA to modernize the public health system and incorporate the voices of impacted populations into disaster planning and prevention efforts

4) Evaluate the state public health incident management team’s ability to address the needs of low-income communities during incident response. VISTA members serve their communities through indirect service.

Applicants should have 4 years of higher education or relevant work experience. Applicants should be flexible, adaptable and a self-starter.
