Want to make a difference by teaching someone how to read, write, and speak English? We have virtual opportunities available today!

We hold 5 virtual "Confident Conversations" classes for Adult English Language learners every week. We always need help in the Zoom breakout rooms to work with small groups of adults. Call or email us for more information on how you can make a difference in just one hour a week!

You can attend classes when convenient. We currently host classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30 to 11:45; Thursday evenings from 6-7:30 pm, and Saturday mornings at 8:30 am. Other times may be available.

You don't need to speak a 2nd language or a background in education - just a desire to help another person improve their English speaking ability. Short training video available and more information - contact us!

About Manatee Literacy Council

Location:

3501 Cortez Rd. W., Suite # 6, Bradenton, FL 34210, US

Mission Statement

to empower Manatee County adults to independence through literacy.

Description

1 in 5 adults in the United States struggles with basic literacy and numeracy.
They read, write, or do math at or below a third-grade level. That means:

  • They may not be able to read a bus schedule or follow directions on a prescription bottle.

  • Filling out a job application or creating a resume can feel overwhelming.

  • Helping a child with homework becomes an impossible task.

  • Managing money, reading bills, or understanding rental agreements is a daily challenge.

These aren’t just skills - they’re essential tools for independence, employment, and participation in our communities. And when adults lack them, it affects not just their own lives, but their families and the local economy.

At the Manatee Literacy Council, we’re working to change this, but we can’t do it alone. We would love for you to join us in creating a stronger, more literate Manatee County.
