Art Therapy Mentor (non-clinical position)

About Mentor A Promise:

Mentor A Promise is a non-profit organization, and our mission is to provide socio-emotional learning, academic support, and mentorship to students in temporary housing and facing housing instability. We partner with family temporary housing sites across New York, educational institutions, and community organizations to create a strong support network for young people experiencing homelessness, helping them overcome challenges and forge their own path to success. Position Overview:

As an Art Therapy Mentor, you will play a key role in advancing our work. You will help us provide Art as a vehicle to self expression.

Key Responsibilities:

· Understand and promote MAP’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.

· Work directly with our students between the ages of 5-12 who have witnessed domestic violence, suffered from family violence and provide expressive art and creative play

· Participate in community meetings, forums, trainings, and collaborations as required.

Position Requirements:

· Knowledge of community risk factors such as homelessness, intimate partner violence, and substance use

· Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality

· Experience working with children affected by trauma, especially through play and art

Desired Qualifications:

· Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to handle communications tactfully and professionally with a high attention to detail and warmth

· Awareness of, and strategies for coping with stress, and or vicarious trauma
