YMCA Reads! is after-school reading remediation and mentoring program where at-risk and low-income children in Kindergarten through fourth-grade develop the reading skills they need to succeed in school. We are looking for volunteers to make a positive impact in the lives of children! No experience is needed; training is provided!

By volunteering just 2-4 hours a week, you can teach a child to read. As a YMCA Reads! mentor, you work with a small group of K-4th grade students, under the supervision of the Site Coordinator. By becoming a YMCA Reads! mentor, you will be able to:

  • Help children develop positive self esteem
  • Provide structured reading intervention instruction
  • Promote literacy and increased academic performance

YMCA Reads! is implemented in partnership with the Florida State Alliance of YMCA’s Foundation, Inc. and the YMCA of Southwest Florida. Funding for YMCA Reads! comes from The Department of Education and the participating YMCA’s.

Join us today and help us raise up the next generation of Charlotte County readers and leaders! Our goal is to have 75% of students on grade level in reading in the next five years. Will you help make that goal a reality?
