Volunteers make their own schedule!
Our Non-medical Hospice Direct Care Volunteer provides support to patients living with a terminal illness, in addition to their caregivers and family. Support is provided in a variety of ways, including companionship, socialization, and caregiver relief. There is no medical background needed - our Hospice volunteers do not interact with the patient in any medical or personal hygiene capacity (i.e., volunteers do not give baths, get the patient in/out of bed, or to/from the bathroom, give medication).
Some examples of what a Direct Care Volunteer could do:

  • Provide Companionship
  • Socialization and/or support to hospice patients and their families/caregivers
  • Reading to the patient
  • Playing games
  • Writing letters to or on behalf of the patient
  • Assisting with light household duties (watering plants, walking pets, washing dishes, emptying and taking out the garbage, etc.
