Do you love books? Can you tell quickly if a book is a novel, a travel book, a classic, a business-related book, an IT book, etc.? Do you love organizing? Are you available on a weekday any time between 9 and 5?
Books are a popular item to donate to our ReStore - and to buy! But with so many people going through the books each day, our book room tends to get disorganized. We want to make it easier for customers to find what they are looking for. A volunteer coming in even just once a month to organize the book room would be helpful. You could:
- Focus on the travel shelf and group the books together by region or country
- Make sure classic fiction shelf is full of classic fiction (and not gardening books)
- Put books on speaking different languages altogether
- Put reference books altogether
- Make sure biographies and autobiographies are all grouped together on the same shelf
- Organize the shelf of religious books in a way that it makes it easier for customers to review them
- Organize the shelf of books about hobbies and organize them in a way that makes it easier to find what they are looking for
- Tell us your ideas that would help the room be more attractive and organized
We are happy to sign off on any paperwork if you undertake this role for a class or if you want to do this for assigned community service. We are right on TriMet Line 57!
We already involve volunteers in most aspects of our house-building and home repairs (and you can do that too!), but we also want the community involved and invested even more in what we do, and a way to do that is involving more volunteers. In addition, we want to keep as much of our finances as possible into those home-building and home repair activities, to support vulnerable families in Western Washington County, Oregon. We have even more volunteering opportunities listed on our web site at www.westualityhabitat.org
The vision of West Tuality Habitat for Humanity is a community where everyone has a safe, decent, and affordable place to live. We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities and is a foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty. Our offices are above the Forest Grove ReStore, which is a critical fundraising tool for all of our programs in Western Washington County, Oregon.
During service, volunteers are representatives of Habitat for Humanity and our mission. In addition to complying with all laws, regulations and Habitat for Humanity policies, all volunteers are expected to follow Habitat’s Code of Conduct.
