Recruiting Organization: Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Start: September 5, 2023

End: July 31, 2024

(start and end dates are negotiable)

Overview:

The Alexander Graham Bell Association works globally to ensure that people who are deaf and hard of hearing can hear and talk. We want all families to be informed and supported, professionals to be appropriately qualified to teach and help children with hearing loss, public policy leaders to effectively address the needs of people with hearing loss, and communities to be empowered to help their neighbors with hearing loss succeed.

The Young Leaders Board is an AG Bell program that works to expand the visibility of AG Bell and the resources for young adults who are Deaf/HOH through networking events as well as to provide opportunities to develop new skills, take on leadership roles, and broaden their professional and social circles.

We work together to engage young adults through establishing a global network, empower young adults to actively participate in a cause, educate young adults to be leaders in their community.

The Young Leaders Board is a pilot program that will seek to instill good practices in nonprofit professionalism and board governance to young adults so the next generation can be equipped to serve as leaders and board members of nonprofits in their community and beyond. Through serving on the Young Leaders Board, you will further your career, network with other professionals and young adults who are Deaf/HOH, create programs that bolster your resume and experience, and gain invaluable mentorship from leaders of your respective field. Lastly and most importantly, the Young Leaders Board will establish a community of young adults who are Deaf/HOH and primarily use LSL (Listening and Spoken Language), providing an important need as this community does not exist in most local spaces, let alone on a national or global level.

If you would like to participate in the Young Leaders Board, but do not think that the leadership of the chair position is something you can commit to, keep an eye out for when internship positions with each of the chairs open- the intern chairs will be entry level, accommodating to university internship requirements and less time commitment.
