The position of Van Driver provides direct support to Veterans in the Reno County area by providing transportation to and from the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita.
Duties:
Volunteers are responsible for picking the van up and transporting the Veteran to the VA in Wichita for medical appointments. While the Veterans are at their appointments, the driver completes a 'trip sheet' (paperwork), can help in the volunteer room and refuels the van and completes fuel paperwork. If the volunteer will be at the VA over the lunch hour, a free lunch is offered. The Veterans are encouraged to schedule their appointments as early in the day as possible so that the van can return to Hutch by 5:00 p.m. - usually home by 3:00.
Training is provided. Can ride with another driver until comfortable, too.
Qualifications:
All volunteers must pass a drivers physical. A screening of the driver's record is conducted. A valid Driver's license and insurance are required.
Must be good working with others, must be flexible and non-judgmental.
Van runs Monday through Thursday, volunteer must serve a minimum of one day's trip to Wichita and back.
Time Needed:
Volunteers leave Hutchinson around 7:00 a.m. and would return by 5:00 p.m. - normally around 3:00.

Description
The Volunteer Center recruits, refers and supports volunteers for the betterment of the community. The Center is home of the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), the Volunteer Action Corps (VAC), Friends in Action and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program in Reno County, Kansas.
