Volunteers help students succeed in school and in life through encouragement and friendship, academic support and caring.

Duties:
Volunteers will meet with one or more students at least once a week in a local school. Activities include reading, being read to, listening, encouraging and caring (mentors for the students).

Volunteers are also needed for Hutch elementary schools for the READ WITH ME program. Volunteers will listen to First Grade through Third Grade students read, help with comprehension and sounding out words.

Qualifications:
Must successfully complete application process and background screenings. Must be dependable, enjoy working with children, willing to volunteer for duration of school year, patient and flexible. 1 Hour Training is required and provided.

Minimum age of volunteer:
18

Days needed:
Monday through Friday, varies by school

Time Needed:
Flexible between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., varies by school

The mission of The Volunteer Center is to match individuals willing to serve with non-profit and governmental organizations in need of help for the benefit the community. Our goal is to be the first place people think of when they want to be of service and the first place non-profit and governmental groups think of when they need dependable volunteer help. As a result we extend the human capacity of area non-profit and governmental agencies by recruiting volunteers to fill a wide variety of volunteer positions in the community.

Description

The Volunteer Center recruits, refers and supports volunteers for the betterment of the community. The Center is home of the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), the Volunteer Action Corps (VAC), Friends in Action and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program in Reno County, Kansas.
