Position & Responsibilities

Role Summary
As part of Tubman’s Movement for Violence Prevention (MVP) team, the Youth Educator Intern connects with students through education and youth leadership activities. Interns present our violence prevention curriculum in middle and high schools, facilitate leadership groups, and provide tools to youth that support peer education and other related projects. Youth Education interns also provide individual advocacy and support.

Position Responsibilities
  • Promote well-being of youth by administering prevention-based services and access points
  • Provide on-going support through education, individual meetings, and leadership groups
  • Communicate and collaborate with supervisor and team to support programming and promote events and activities
  • Plan and curate posts to engage youth audiences via various social media platforms

Qualifications & Expectations

Position Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills, flexibility, maturity, and positive attitude
  • Awareness and understanding of challenges facing youth and ability to think critically
  • Interest in public speaking, community outreach, and youth programs
  • Ability to work independently and to manage resources and time effectively
  • Ability to work with diverse teams and clients to foster a culturally inclusive environment
  • Must have current driver’s license, insurance, access to a car, and willingness to travel
Time Commitment & Availability
  • Minimum of 10 hours per week, weekday availability required, September through May
Supervision & Training
  • Supervised by the Youth Education Manager
  • Attend Tubman’s five part Volunteer/Intern Orientation and Training Series
  • Dates for the Fall 2023 Training Series:
    The Saturday training and orientation will be held on-site at Tubman Chrysalis Center in Minneapolis.
    Saturday, August 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    All evening trainings will be held virtually.
    Tuesday, August 22, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
    Thursday, August 24, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
    Tuesday, August 29, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
    Thursday, August 31, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

For more than 45 years, Tubman has helped people of all ages, all genders, and all cultural backgrounds struggling with relationship violence, substance abuse, mental health, and other forms of trauma. Throughout the Twin Cities, Tubman provides safe shelter, legal services, counseling, youth programming, and community education. Last year, we helped about 17,700 people in Hennepin, Ramsey, and Washington counties and the surrounding area, get the support and information they need to experience safety, hope, and healing.
