Board Member Opportunity: Communications Strategist & Leader

We’re looking for a board member with communications management or director-level experience to help us develop and execute a strong communications strategy. While we have a strategic framework in place, we need someone who can bring it to life, refine it, and drive it forward - not just take direction.

This is a working board position, meaning our board members actively contribute their expertise to help our organization grow. While this is an unpaid volunteer role, there is a $2,500 annual contribution requirement, as all of our board members invest in our mission both financially and through their work.

We envision this as a temporary leadership role, where you will build the foundation for our communications strategy. Once established, we plan to hire a dedicated staff member to take over and expand on what you've created. Your board role will then move to advisory, to ensure success of the organization going forward.

About For Goodness Cakes:

For Goodness Cakes works with foster agencies and care homes to match volunteers to bake and deliver birthday cakes to disadvantaged youth and young adults in many locations across the US. It produces such an incredible impact from a small effort that almost anyone can join and give back around their own busy schedules.

For Goodness Cakes was formed in 2016 and has grown tremendously. We now have almost 30 chapters across the country and have baked and delivered over 35,000 cakes! As we continue to grow, we are looking to expand our board to establish further governance and leadership moving forward. The organization is entirely volunteer-run and led, so an involved, working board overseeing the mission and long-term strategy is critical.

About the Board:

Board members are elected to 1-year terms, subject to re-election annually. All board members are expected and required to adhere to the three global board responsibilities: duty of care, loyalty, and obedience.

What We Expect From You:

• Willingness to provide stewardship and thoughtful guidance
• Commitment to furthering our mission and strengthening the board
• Communicating and collaborating with the board and staff for any special projects or committees
• Availability and active participation in quarterly and ad hoc virtual meetings
• Commitment to financial stability, including an annual personal contribution of $2,500
• Prior board experience preferred, but not required
