The Carmichael Food Closet is a drive-up and walk-up food distribution site for about 200 families in need per week. We've been serving the Carmichael community for more than 50 years, and it's all made possible by wonderful volunteers like YOU!
Posted below are the three main volunteer opportunities we offer, but if you'd like to volunteer for a specific day/time not listed, please email us. We'll do our best to accomodate your availabilty.
Primary Volunteer Shifts:
- Morning Warehouse Shift (8:30-10:30a) - stocking shelves and prepping food bags; no client contact; team of 3-5 volunteers with direction from onsite leadership
- Late Morning Shift (10:30a-12:30p) - sort donated foods; pack bags; organize refrigerators & freezers; restock warehouse shelves. Volunteers should be comfortable moving boxes.
- Afternoon Distribution Shift (12:30-2:30p) - distribution of food bags to drive-up and walk-up clients; team of 4-8 volunteers with direction from onsite leadership. Volunteers must be prepared to work outside and have client contact.
- Thursday Evening Distribution Shift (5:15-7:30p) - light packing and food distribution to drive-up and walk-up clients; team of 6-10 volunteers with direction from onsite leadership. Volunteers must be prepared to work outside and have client contact.

The mission of the Carmichael Food Closet is to help any family or individual in our community struggling with food insecurity to gain consistent access to nutritious food through friendly and individualized food distribution and support services.
Description
The Food Closet began 50+ years ago by church volunteers and remains a volunteer driven organization. Hundreds of volunteers from across the community and faith groups help with food distribution 4 times per week.
