Think about it...and then...Help someone cross over the literacy gap !
Learning to read and understand medical prescriptions, bus schedules, financial and credit information, written instructions are vital parts of everyday life. Did you know that many adults in the Rochester area are unable to perform in this capacity?
RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) is actively recruiting tutors age 55 to help highly motivated adult learners to succeed in reading, writing and using English language skills, or obtain educational goals.
Volunteers participate in a training program, and commit to tutoring one student for two hours per week for at least one year. Staff provides ongoing support and all materials to volunteer tutors.
Tutoring takes place one-to-one privately in a public place (i.e. library) that is mutually agreeable to the tutor and learner.
RSVP provides no cost supplemental accident and liability coverage to all volunteers registered with RSVP. Other benefits may be available to RSVP volunteers as well.
