ORGANIZATION: BRANDYWINE BATTLEFIELD PARK ASSOCIATES

Key components of Brandywine Battlefield's Hands-on History approach are the many trades and craft demonstrations done by volunteers to recreate life during the 18th century. Trades & Craft Demonstrations are needed for school tours, special programs, and public events. Demonstrators are stationed around the site talking with visitors about the trade/craft they are demonstrating, showing their crafts, and for specific demonstrations, even allowing the visitors to participate. The Park provides volunteers with the necessary training, tools, clothing, space, and materials (or reimbursement for materials) for each craft. Due to its nature, each trade has its own training requirements and age restrictions.

Description

The Brandywine Battlefield is a Revolutionary War Battlefield that encompasses approximately 35,000 acres
in Chester and Delaware Counties, Pennsylvania. The Brandywine Battlefield Park is a 52-acre park and
serves as a starting point for exploring the battlefield. The Park consists of a Visitor’s Center, Museum, and
two 18th Century Quaker Homes: the Benjamin Ring Home (Washington’s Headquarters), and the Gideon
Gilpin Home. The Ring House was restored throughout the 1940s and the park opened to the public in 1951.
