Support immigrant rights!

The National Immigration Project (http://www.nipnlg.org), a small nonprofit dedicated to immigrant rights. is seeking a volunteer photographer to capture our Annual Reception and Happy Hour in which we award one of our attorney members with the annual Elisabeth S. "Lisa" Brodyaga Award for outstanding legal work in defense of immigrant rights.

The Year's Honoree is Sui Chung, a true champion of justice whose pro-bono projects, mentorship, and deep commitment to defending immigrant rights is exemplary and inspiring.

We expect 50-100 attorneys to attend, in addition to others, including Sui's family members.

Our reception runs from 4:30-5:30pm on Wednesday 6/21 and takes place during the Annual Conference of the American Immigration Law Association (AILA) at the Gaylord Convention Center in Orlando.

We would greatly appreciate if you would be so kind as to lend your photography skills and expertise to our event so we can have a record of it!

Thanks so much, and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions about this volunteer opportunity.

Mission Statement

The National Immigration Project is a membership organization of attorneys, advocates, and community members who are driven by the belief that all people should be treated with dignity, live freely, and flourish. We litigate, advocate, educate, and build bridges across movements to ensure that those who bear the brunt of racist criminal and immigration systems are uplifted and supported.

Description

We imagine a world where everyone can live freely and flourish without fearing for their life, health, security, or their ability to remain where they are. We envision a world where freedom of movement is welcomed and not feared, and where cooperative systems of support that honor human dignity in the experience of migration have replaced our current policies of enforcement, detention, incarceration, and criminalization.

In order to achieve our vision for the worl d, we must strive and fight for a fundamental shift in perspective--from punishment to transformative justice, from criminalization to compassion and cooperation, all centered around the people who are most impacted. We must fully acknowledge and reckon with the deeply racist and white supremacist roots of our current immigration, policing, and criminal legal systems. We need solutions that build on that recognition, not ones that tinker around the edges and fail to address root causes. We believe that immigrant rights is fundamentally a racial justice issue, and that our fight and the fight for criminal justice is one and the same.
