Special Olympics Pennsylvania is seeking a Community Team Leader volunteer to help keep our programs running in Centre County, PA!
The Community Team Leader volunteers for Special Olympics Pennsylvania outside of the sports environment. They seek to connect to community resources, groups, service organizations and others throughout their local area to increase involvement and awareness of Special Olympics. Relevant experience is always welcome, but not necessary!
Time Commitment: Community Team Leaders typically volunteer for 1-2 hours per week, with occasional additional hours when there are special events. Most volunteer work can be completed from home.
Requirements: Complete the volunteer application (https://specialolympicspa.org/become-a-volunteer).
- Complete Background Checks through SOPA (For volunteers 18 and older)
- Complete General Orientation, Protective Behaviors training and Concussion training

Mission Statement
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Description
Athletes -- Over 16,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities or closely related developmental disabilities participate in over 300 local, sectional and state events. Athletes range in age from 8 to 80 and are of all ability levels.
Volunteers -- Nearly 46,000 volunteers provided the manpower for Special Olympics Pennsylvania last year. Volunteers of all ages serve as coaches, escorts, organizers, fund-raisers, entertainers, or sports officials. There's a place for everyone in Special Olympics, and volunteers are always needed both on and off the playing field!
