We offer hope after the death of a loved one by providing support networks, community education and therapeutic activities that are free, peer-based, and ongoing.
The Christi Center provides programs and peer support services to children, adults, and family members for as long as it is needed. As the only free grief support in the Greater Austin area, we offer a safe place to grieve and heal.
Governance may not be a glamorous volunteer task, but it is an important part of the Christi Center’s ability to serve people of all ages as they move through their grief journey. The Governance Committee reviews and updates by laws, policies, procedures, and works with the Executive Director and Board in various governance areas.
Meetings are currently held via ZOOM six times a year or more when the need arises. The meetings last for 90 minutes. This is a one-year commitment.
If you are interested in working with the Christi Center in the area of governance, please contact Kathleen "Kathy" McCleskey at Kathy@KMConsultingandTraining.com.

Mission Statement
The mission of The Christi Center is to provide love, comfort, hope and ongoing support to those who are adjusting to life after the death of a loved one, regardless of the circumstances of the death; and to educate the public regarding the issues of grief and other concerns of the bereaved.
Description
The Christi Center was founded by Susan and Don Cox on October 26, 1987. The Cox's lost their 20-year-old daughter, Christi, who was killed by a drunk driver in 1985. In their search for help, they realized many others were unable to find the affordable or appropriate support they needed to help with the pain of their loss. Their dedication and passion to help others in grief has evolved into a well-established bereavement center used by thousands every year.
The Christi Center is a peer support organization that helps people, from all walks of life, address their grief in healthy ways. Using the already proven model of peer support, we help guide our survivors to accept and eventually adapt to the "new normal". Our on-going support groups are there to share tools for coping: a smile, hug or provide a safe place just to cry. The meetings are open to anyone seeking support. There is no fee or time limit to attend our support groups. All services are provided to survivors, without regard for the circumstances of their loved one's death or their ability to pay. Individuals and families remain active clients as long as they need support.CAUSE AREAS
