Sometimes, when we create a new program, we struggle with getting young people to register - mainly because we are a new organization, and no one has ever heard of us. Ambassadors help us by actually joining the team, training with the coaches and then representing SoulPhamm at high visibility performances and events. Once we establish a reputation for being a solid performing and competitive team, we tend to attract more interest from young people.
Color Guard is a combination of the use of flags, sabers, mock rifles, and other equipment, as well as dance and other interpretive movement to inspire organizational pride and team spirit. As with most of our programs, we anticipate that the color guard will include boys & girls ages 12 to 19.
Practice will be held on Saturdays from 1pm to 4pm at the Newark YMCA starting in August. The season ends in June. Interested candidates should share a little about their color guard experience when they reach out (but beginners are welcomed). Candidates with experience in contemporary dance (who don't have specific color guard experience) are welcomed to apply.
Once you express interest, we will email you an application and will set up a Zoom call for you to meet with our Director to answer any questions you might have. Once you return the application, you will be added to the team's online studio (which will require the download of the BAND app). Practices will then start in August.
Ambassadors should check with their schools to see if this opportunity will satisfy their requirements. Otherwise, we will provide reference letters at the end of the season which outline the number of hours you committed to the program. This letter can be used when you apply for college, jobs or other opportunities.
No phone calls please.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of young people by providing unique artistic and athletic experiences and performances, and to assist them in achieving the highest standards of professionalism through the development of discipline, skill, confidence, cooperation, leadership, responsibility and character.
Description
Our vision is to promote virtue, equity, unity, justice, faith, charity and a sense of common purpose and brotherhood among all people with an emphasis on the development and advancement of young people through education, athletics, service and the arts.
SoulPhamm was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the state of New Jersey on June 25, 2021 and is the "birth-child" of Coach Luis ("Lou") and Dr. Leisa Herrera ("Mz. Doc"). The organization exists to provide training to young people in a variety of sports and performing arts and unique opportunities to display those talents through competition and performance. By integrating mentoring, life skills, opportunities for community service and academic enrichment to the athletic/artistic program, we help make our scholar-athletes as well-rounded as possible, capable of meeting and overcoming any challenges they are faced with. Although Coach Lou passed away suddenly in January 2021, the official launch of SoulPhamm was held on June 26, 2021, which coincided with his birthday weekend. SoulPhamm will recognize its own founding, as well as the achievements of our young people every year on the fourth Saturday of June, as a tribute to the life and legacy of Coach Lou.
