Women’s Health in Women’s Hands is governed by a Policy Board which consists of 10 directors that are representative of racialized women, transgendered and other gender non-conforming people from the African, Black, Caribbean, Latin American and South Asian communities. We are currently seeking candidates with governance experience and with the following areas of identity or expertise: Community health care / health sector experience, Legal, Financial, Fundraising, transgender women, representatives from the South Asian, and Latin American communities

Join us as volunteer Board Members to help advance health equity for racialized women, transgendered and other gender non-conforming people.

Women's Health in Women's Hands is a Community Health Centre that provides culturally competent, relevant, and responsive primary healthcare to racialized women, transgendered and non-binary clients from the African, Black, Caribbean, Latin American and South Asian communities in Toronto and surrounding municipalities. We are changemakers engaged in knowledge transfer and exchange, research, capacity building and advocacy within and across multiple systems in service of our vision.

  • Community health care / health sector experience is an asset
  • Legal: Employment Lawyer is an asset
  • Financial: Accounting background to sit on and chair our finance committee
  • Fundraising
  • Transgender women, non-binary and other non-conforming gender identities and expression
  • Representatives from the South Asian communities
  • Representatives from Latin American Communities

Mission Statement

The Mandate of Women’s Health in Women’s Hands (WHIWH) Community Health Centre is to provide primary healthcare to racialized women from the African, Black, Caribbean, Latin American and South Asian communities in Toronto and surrounding municipalities. We are committed to working from an inclusive feminist, pro-choice, anti-racist, anti-oppression, and multilingual participatory framework in addressing the issue of access to healthcare for our mandated priority populations encompassing age, gender, gender identity, race, class, violence, sexual orientation, religion, culture, language, disability, immigration status and socio-economic circumstances.

Description

Women's Health In Women's Hands is a Community Health Centre for racialized women living in Toronto and surrounding municipalities. Our primary health care team of highly skilled health care professionals specialize in the health and wellness needs of racialized women and prioritizes those from African, Caribbean, Latin American and South Asian communities. Our services are fully accessible and designed to address the barriers that prevent women from being in excellent health. Our health care team consists of: Physicians, Registered Nurses, Health Educators, Health Promoters, Community Health Workers, Community Outreach Workers, Counsellors, Community Based Researchers, Nurse Practitioners, Dietitians, Mental Health Therapists, Chiropodists.

  • As a Board member you would be expected to: •Prepare for and attend Board meetings, and Board committee meetings. Board meetings are held on the second Wednesday evening each month. (Due to the Covid19 pandemic, all meetings are virtually
  • •Participate and attend the following: 1) One day-long planning session a year 2) AGM in September, and 3) occasional board orientation and/or development •Support Board decisions once they are made •Work candidly, collaboratively, respectfully
