The program focuses on core fundamentals, so tutors do not have to be a math genius to provide tutoring and mentorship. All materials sessions are uploaded in advance to the program hub to provide tutors with a chance to get familiarized with the weekly topic. The program also focuses on relationship building and social-emotional development. Students feel that they matter to their tutors both in session and in life. No experience is required trainings and professional development workshops will be provided.

To help underperforming NYC middle school students master fundamental math skills so that they have a strong foundation upon which they may develop critical thinking skills used in real life situations.

Description

Common Denominator, formerly known as Top Honors, is a not-for-profit, mathematics tutoring program that helps reinforce basic mathematical skills for middle school students. Common Denominator's unique and structured curriculum focuses on math concepts, real-life examples, and incorporates competitive mathematics-driven games that motivate students to learn.
