Recruiting Organization: Winning Futures

We help Metro Detroit students figure out what they'll do after high school, then teach them skills and knowledge they will need for success. Sessions start with a staff member who facilitates a 10-15 minute lesson, then Career Mentors participate with students in a fun and planned activity that reinforces the day's lesson. 2 to 3 one-hour sessions every month from November through May. Sessions are held at participating schools, in the classroom, during the school day, with staff, teachers, and students present. Career Mentors choose their specific school, days, and times. The curriculum is evidence-based and includes topics like: career exploration, strengths and weaknesses, communication, teamwork, preparing for college or trade school, and goal setting. Career Mentors receive training before sessions begin and support before, during, and after every session. Participating schools are in Detroit, Harper Woods, Sterling Heights, Warren, and Pontiac. 90 percent of our students are people of color and all want a Career Mentor.
