Our organization needs to increase our pool of instructors to train our new tutors. If you have experience in education, training, or tutoring, this opportunity is perfect for you! Training occurs at the State College of FL in Venice approximately 6 times per year and each workshop runs for two, 7-hour days. Training materials and curriculum are provided, however, our trainers work together to improve and modify training when needed. We invite you to become a volunteer and help us change the lives of adults throughout South Sarasota County.

Description
Literacy Volunteers trains volunteers, interviews adults who request services, matches tutors with adult students, provides textbooks and other training materials, and offers ongoing support for tutors and students. Tutoring services are free to adult learners.
If you can read, write, speak English, and have the ability to be flexible and patient with an adult learner, YOU can become a trained tutor. Prior teaching experience or knowledge of another language is NOT required.
Our training prepares volunteers to help foreign-born adults learn English as a Second Language (ESL) and help English-speaking adults improve their reading skills (Basic Adult Literacy).
