Spend the day outdoors with the BanjoFiddle Contest & Folk Festival, on May 19, 2024.
Why: This is a Los Angeles arts and cultural community event that forges new interest in old musical traditions. We aim to foster a love of our collective musical heritage by creating a shared community experience that belongs to and celebrates all Angeleno traditions. We are not just a live concert event, we are a forum for musical jams (large and small, planned and spontaneous), workshops, and even one-on-one music lessons.
Who: We are an organization run exclusively by volunteers. We celebrate folk, bluegrass, old-time, and traditional music from many cultural backgrounds. The festival takes place at the beautiful King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas and is a wonderful way to spend a spring Sunday in the Santa Monica mountains. We have five stages with live performances, exhibitions, food trucks, artisans, informal jamming, and a children's area that includes a craft table and an Instrument Petting Zoo.
What to Expect:
Volunteers are granted free admission and a bagged lunch, and school credit where applicable. Our jobs range from:
Stage production assistance (equipment set-up and assistance, green room)
Videography - film contestant segments for upload to our YouTube channel
Customer service (merchandise, ticket sales, scanning, greeter, volunteer check-in, children's craft table)
Facilities (floater, parking lot, set-up, tear-down, cart driver).
Musicians to help us run our Instrument Petting Zoo.
Behind-the-scenes help, including Sign Coordinator, Catering, Instrument Petting Zoo lead, and Board secretary.
The ground is uneven, but King Gillette Ranch is ADA-compliant.
What's Required: Basic physical ability (walking, standing, lifting, carrying, moving) is helpful, but there are many jobs that only require sitting.
