Wrightsville Beach Museum is a small community history and culture museum located in the Wrightsville Beach Historic Square on the north side of Wrightsville Beach Park. The docent’s primary function is to greet visitors, give them a brief tour of the museum, try to answer their questions, and make them feel welcome.
The opportunity is open to anyone who would like to engage with their local community and learn about the history of Wrightsville Beach, but we are particularly interested in people with a background in history and students who would like to gain experience developing and supporting programming in a museum setting.
The Museum is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 am - 4 pm and on Sundays 1 pm - 4 pm. The Docent shifts are 10 am-1 pm and 1 pm-4 pm. Some of our Docents volunteer weekly, some bi-weekly, and some monthly.
We are happy to support high school and college students who have a service obligation as part of their education or activities. This is an amazing opportunity for students to fufill their service obligations while gaining professional experience and training in museum practices and nonprofit operations.
