Community Coaching is an 8 week program in which our advanced ESL and GED/College Prep students are paired with a volunteer community coach, an experienced professional, who can assist with a specific academic or professional goal. Students work with the community coach throughout the program on incremental steps each week to reach their goals, whether that’s finding a job or applying to a continuing education program. The role of the coach ranges from guiding students through drafting a resume to helping connect them to scholarship search engines to navigating the FAFSA.
Community coaching is designed for students who can advance in their professional and academic lives with 1:1 mentoring and support. This is supplemental to progress made in the classroom, and takes a holistic approach to make sure that after completing their classes with us, students are set up for success. We hold new volunteer trainings the third week of every month. The time commitment is 2 hours every week for the entirety of the 8 week coaching program.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to advance social and economic equity for under-served adults through academic instruction and workforce development.
Description
The Literacy Council of Montgomery County (LCMC) sustains and grows the social and economic equity of adults in our region through education and workforce training. We teach adults to read, write, and speak English in a vibrant multicultural community where English proficiency is a tool for success.
Through our programs, we are equipping our adult learners with skills for life! We are passionate about helping our students reach their goals; whether that be improving employment opportunities, increasing their education levels, acquiring consumer skills, or increasing their involvement in their children’s education.
At LCMC we are fighting generational poverty and under-education in Montgomery County, and together we can do even more!
