Help a child who struggles to read, write, and spell due to dyslexia or other related reading disorders. Dyslexia affects up to 1 in 5 people and is the MOST common reading disability, yet is not recognized in most public schools.

By becoming a Paid ($15 an hour)and or volunteer tutor, you can be the game changer for a child who struggles to read! Paid or Volunteers are the heartbeat of our organization and the gift of reading is invaluable!

Please consider becoming a tutor!

Six hours per week after paid training is all it takes to help! Please note: you must be available for at least six hours a week per student tutored for one hour each time.
Note:If you reside in Chesapeake VA or Hampton Roads Area we have in person opportunities available

Mission Statement

To assist children and adults who struggle to read, write, and spell due to poor literacy skills, to provide dyslexia tailored tutoring and screening to those impacted by dyslexia or have the characterstics of dyslexia and to give families of children who receive special education services (learning, emotional, physical, and mental) an "informed voice" and resource in their child’s individual education program.

Description

Voice Advocacy Center is a dyslexia screening, tutoring and special education advocacy assistance program for children, teenagers and adults who are below grade level academically or functionally illiterate in reading and writing due to dyslexia or other reading and writing related issues.

Voice Advocacy Center’s mission is to assist children, teenagers and adults who struggle to read, write, and spell due to dyslexia or other literacy related disorders and to give families of children who receive special education services (learning, emotional, physical, and mental) an "informed voice" and resource in their child’s individual education program.

Voice Advocacy Center offers seven year-round, community-based programs: Dyslexia Screening (to access if the student fits the classic dyslexia profile); 1:1 Dyslexia Tailored Tutoring (One hour Minimum 2(x) a week tutoring with a Tutor); Special Education Advocacy Services (assisting families of children who are in Special Ed with an advocate to ensure appropriate services for Dyslexia and other disability categories) Learning Disability and Dyslexia Information and Resources, Incarcerated Youth and Adult Reentry Adult Basic Literacy Tutoring, Resource and Workshop Trainings and Handwriting Training for those with poor penmanship due to Dysgraphia.
