Mission Statement

The Nisqually Reach Nature Center promotes the understanding, appreciation, and conservation of the Nisqually estuary through education, interpretation, and citizen science.

Description

Founded in 1982, the Nisqually Reach Nature Center (NRNC) promotes the understanding, appreciation, and conservation of the Nisqually estuary through education, interpretation, and citizen science. We are situated in one of the most beautiful locations in South Puget Sound overlooking the Nisqually Estuary at Luhr Beach. Our educational programs and activities inspire students and community members of all ages to care about the natural world. NRNC reaches over 3,500 students every year through our innovative educational programming. NRNC also coordinates citizen science programs to help collect data about Puget Sound’s unique ecosystems. The organization is governed by a motivated board of directors guiding 3 current staff positions (Executive Director, Science Technician, and Education Director) and over 150 volunteers.

The Nisqually Estuary is the largest undeveloped river delta in South Sound and is a true biologic gem worthy of all its splendor. It has held its integrity through the combined efforts of concerned people who helped protect this valuable habitat.
