  • 25 people are interested

As a volunteer, you will assist with our enrichment program (life skills, academic content) and tennis practices. We are looking for individuals who can be positive role models for our student athletes. As a volunteer, you are expected to demonstrate appropriate behavior in the classroom or on the court and will be asked to support our student-athletes in different tasks. Our volunteers will not need to plan any of the content of our programming, as this is done by our staff.

Each day our enrichment and tennis programming might look slightly different, so we ask that you try to arrive a little early so the agenda can be explained to you and you feel prepared. A staff member will let you know what they would like you to do, such as working one on one with a student on a math worksheet or supporting a small group during a tennis drill.

As a volunteer, you are greatly helping our student athletes receive more individualized attention and support. Please let us know what works with your schedule, if you are looking to help out once a week, twice a month, or if you have something else in mind!

Mission Statement

Seattle Tennis and Education Foundation is a non-profit that inspires under-resourced kids to be active in mind and body so they gain the confidence and skills to achieve their dreams.

Description

At STEF, we are not only looking to introduce kids to a lifelong love of tennis, but to tap into their critical thinking, curiosity, and creativity! Our program aims to keep kids physically active by getting them off of screens and on to the tennis court. While tennis is our main focus, we also center around positivity, community, and participation both on and off the court. Social and emotional learning and wellbeing is a key component in working with youth and we take time each week to highlight different topics such as honesty, communication, and sportsmanship.

In the classroom, we continue to spark interest and discover new ways of learning together. We aim to enrich the lives of our participants by offering new and fun activities that challenge all ages. Our academic and enrichment side of programming involves art, STEM, reading, writing, and more! Our goal is to expose our kids to as many new experiences as possible and help them find their own passions and interests.

Through offering a free program, we provide access to a sport, unique learning experiences, and critical social and emotional resources to kids and families who otherwise would be unable to afford it. Our core programming at STEF is also not duplicated by another agency, school, or organization within the served community.
