ORGANIZATION: Sutter Care at Home - Hospice https://www.sutterhealth.org/scah

Compassionate Heart and Hands

Looking for certified therapy or service animals and their humans living in Alameda County to visit hospice patients! This position requires you to have your own certified therapy or service dog or animal. No previous hospice experience necessary! We provide thorough training and ongoing support. One year commitment required. We ask for 1-2 hours a week of volunteer time.

To become a hospice volunteer at Sutter Hospice the greatest gift you can offer is your time, your caring nature, and your willingness to listen. Volunteering can be as simple as sitting by the bedside, listening with compassion, or playing music or reading a book.

Being a hospice volunteer is a great opportunity to practice compassion and discover and learn new skills. Volunteers are trained to enhance the goal of meeting the emotional and social connection needs of hospice patients and their families.

While volunteers cannot provide clinical or personal care, volunteers with therapy/service animals can bring moments of joy with their visits with their animal companions.

For your protection and the protection of our patients, volunteers will be required to have up-to-date vaccinations. Sutter provides many vaccinations and immunity tests. All personal protective equipment will be supplied by Sutter Hospice (currently no masks are required).
