TIGRINYA AND AMHARIC INTERPRETER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Rian Immigrant Center (formerly the Irish International Immigrant Center)

The Rian Immigrant Center is seeking volunteer interpreters fluent in Tigrinya and Amharic to assist the legal services team in their work with the Ethiopian and Eritrean communities. Rian attorneys will be helping clients file their USCIS applications and are in need of interpreters to assist them in doing so. Volunteers will be asked to provide their availability to better aid Rian’s attorneys in their efforts. All interpretation work will occur on weekdays during normal business hours. Currently there are immediate and ongoing opportunities available for volunteers with a fluency in oral interpretation for Tigrinya and/or Amharic.

The assistance of Tigrinya and/or Amharic interpreters is essential to assist us in providing assistance to as many Ethiopian and Eritrean clients as possible with their USCIS applications. Interpreters will assist attorneys while they meet with applicants or at USCIS interviews. Interpreters should be fluent or native in Tigrinya and/or Amharic. This is an ideal opportunity for someone interested in using their language skills to help serve in their community, but do not have a lot of time to regularly volunteer. You will be helping to empower immigrants and refugees by supporting our nonprofit legal services team.

The Rian Immigrant Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer and strongly encourages candidates of diverse backgrounds and languages to apply.

TIME COMMITMENT: Between Monday and Friday, 7am-5pm. No evening or weekend availability required.

IN PERSON/REMOTE: Remote and in-person opportunities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpreting for attorneys and DOJ Accredited Representative staff in live 3-way telephone calls with clients, or participating on-camera in video conference meetings (such as RingCentral, Zoom, Google Meet, etc)
  • Interpreting in-person at the Rian Immigrant Center’s monthly Forms Workshop clinics
  • Interpreting in-person or by phone for clients at USCIS interviews

QUALIFICATIONS:
