The SVdP Community Center is located in the heart of one of California's most distressed communities, West Oakland at San Pablo and West Grand Avenues. The center occupies one square block on the border of downtown and West Oakland. Computer literacy and general access is greatly limited to our guests, and we are looking to create a place where people can find social services and resources that they qualify for. Many people simply do not know what resources they qualify and that is something here at St. Vincent de Paul we want to change. We believe no one should be gatekept information they deserve. Please consider joining our team of volunteers to help neighbors in need and make them feel welcome at SVdP!
SVdP welcomes students, ages 14 and older, to complete service hours in Downtown Oakland. Youth under the age of 18 will need a waiver of liability signed by a parent/guardian. Youth under the age of 16 will need an adult (someone who is 18 years or older) to accompany them the entire day of service. We love to have families volunteer together! We also accommodate small groups of students for high school service days.
Volunteers will be asked to:
Help people access social services and teach computer skills.
Print directions to places of need.
Commitment: One or two shifts per week is ideal; regular commitment is highly appreciated.
Volunteers will attend an orientation and receive training on or before their first day of service. It is very brief and comprehensive about SVdP's history and the work we do everyday to support our community.
Our services are open Tuesday-Saturday from 9:00am-3pm. Volunteers typically will work half days in the morning or the afternoon.
*At SVdP we are committed to keeping everyone safe, so please always wear a mask when on campus.

Mission Statement
St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County is dedicated to serving the men, women and children of Alameda County.
Description
A non-profit, community-based organization, St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County (SVdP) offers emergency and social safety net services to its neighbors, relying on a vast network of volunteers to carry out our mission. We operate a free dining room, thrift stores, an e-waste recycling program, men and women's drop-in centers, workforce and culinary training programs and much more. St. Vincent de Paul serves everyone regardless of origin, creed, or affiliation. Our staff and volunteers are a diverse and talented group, representing a wide range of experiences and perspectives.
St. Vincent de Paul was founded in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam, a 20-year-old student of the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. Similar groups began to form in Paris, then spread throughout France, and eventually throughout the world.
Volunteers, known as Vincentians, are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility, and sharing. St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County was founded in 1938, and has been serving the community of Oakland ever since.
