Hello Volunteers,
ECAC is looking for volunteer interpreters who can translate written and verbal English to Spanish/ Arabic / Urdu / Rohingya / Kiswahili / Kinyarwanda.
Mainly, volunteers will assist our Cultural Orientation Case Worker translate the workshop materials. Our Cultural Orientation covers essentials to know for refugee clients to live in the United States, including how to call 911 for an emergency, fire safety, public transportation, and notion of housing/leasing, etc. These are essential information for our clients to adjust to new surroundings, and we wish to expand the accessibility of this workshop clients (currently, we have Dari&Pashto, and English versions).
We have flexible schedules within our office hours: Mon-Fri 9 AM to 5 PM. To register, please contact the volunteer coordinator at volunteer@ecachicago.com.

The Ethiopian Community Association of Chicago (ECAC) is a non-profit, charitable organization committed to serving the cultural, psychological and socio-economic needs of refugees and immigrants in and around metropolitan Chicago. In addition to assisting native Ethiopians, the ECAC supports all African, Asian, Middle Eastern and Eastern European refugee populations who seek its services. Established in 1984, ECAC assists in the promotion of personal growth, financial stability, positive family and community relations, and community empowerment. The adjustment and development of all of ECAC’s constituents is facilitated with programs in the areas of advocacy, education, employment, healthcare and community outreach.
Description
ECAC activities include: Refugee Reception & Placement; Employment Services; Match Grant (MG) program; Child and Youth Development; English as a Second Language (ESL); and Preferred Communities (PC) program; Citizenship and Immigration Services.
