Volunteers have always been an integral part of the hospice program and team. Most volunteers are actively involved with patients and their families by providing respite for caregivers, companionship for patients and caregivers, and running errands, etc. There are also opportunities for volunteers to be involved in non-caregiving roles. Those volunteers provide administrative assistance to hospice staff, make phone calls and send mailings for the Bereavement Team, and/or help with community events. They also assist with fundraising and our annual memorial service. Volunteers wishing to provide direct assistance to patients and their families are required to complete a 12-hour training program (Medicare requirement). This training is provided free of charge and is open to the public.
