Would you like to make a difference in a terminally ill person's life?
At Saint Agnes Hospice, we take care of patients in their homes on hospice care. Hospice is a program for patients who have a diagnosis and a life expectancy of 6 months or less to live. These are individuals who often want to let nature run its course and don't want to continue going to the hospital or sustaining chemo/radiation/dialysis treatments. Essentially, these people are deciding they want to pass away peacefully in the comfort of their own home via the use of comfort medications and support from our team. The majority of these patients are elderly and are seen routinely in their own homes by our nurses, social workers, chaplains and our volunteers!
Our volunteers go in 1x a week or more often and spend as little as an hour up to 5 hours visiting these patients. Our volunteers simply provide companionship. We read to them, watch tv with them, hold their hands, play card games or just talk. These patients sometimes don't have family in town so this is just companionship for them. Other times, family lives with them and just needs a break to get out of the house and our volunteers provide that for them.
Required steps to complete: Application, background check, TB tests, Flu Shot, Orientation.

Description
The goals of Saint Agnes Hospice are to manage symptoms for patient comfort and to support patients and their families in their commitment to providing care at home. The volunteer's hours are flexible and are based on the patients' needs and the volunteer's availability. The success that St. Agnes Hospice has achieved has been greatly aided by the excellent group of volunteers who provide service to the patient and their families.
