Bloom (formerly Image for Success) is a program of YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley that provides two weeks free clothing to those in need seeking a life of self-reliance. We also provide each client with a hygiene kit, undergarments, shoes and accessories. Bloom is an essential nonprofit agency that has been serving the residents of Marin County over the past 20 years. Bloom serves low-income & underprivileged working populations referred by supporting social services agencies at no cost.

The Marketing & Communications Volunteer will support the creation of social media content for the Bloom Program of YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley. This includes taking videos and photos and creating engaging material for the program's Instagram during bimonthly visits to Bloom. Volunteer work takes place both onsite and remotely.

Major Responsibilities:

  • On a monthly basis, the volunteer will work with the Bloom Program Coordinator to populate the content calendar for social media. This includes brainstorming ideas for engaging content.
  • During bimonthly visits to Bloom, this volunteer will take video and photo footage and gather information for posts.
  • While working from home throughout the month, the volunteer will create posts, stories and reels and send to Program Coordinator for feedback, approval and posting.
  • Work in compliance with all legal requirements, and organizational and departmental policies, procedures and standards.
Required Qualifications:
  • This person must have an ability to take high quality videos and photos and have a strong understanding of social media. This includes the ability to create engaging content and the knowledge of how to boost followers. An ability to use Canva is key.
  • Interest in, and a commitment to, continuous learning about the Bloom Program.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, be open to feedback, and seek guidance, direction and input from others.
  • Ability to practice cultural humility, i.e., maintain an interpersonal approach that is other-oriented in relation to aspects of cultural identity that are most important to the person. Ability to work with/support individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Commitment to developing knowledge, skills and abilities to better connect with individuals and communities, and to gaining more insight into personal biases and identities. This includes, and is not limited to, treating all people with respect and dignity, recognizing and appreciating cultural differences, and working to interact with greater cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to be non-judgmental, open, honest and calm, and maintain professional boundaries.
Training & Other Requirements:
  • This volunteer position requires a Covid-19 vaccination due to the in-person interfacing required, and to promote the health and safety of others at YWCA locations and our community.
  • Clearance on a background check, including DOJ & FBI fingerprinting.
  • Completion of all policies and procedures documentation.

  • Six (6) hours per month consisting of two (2) one-hour onsite visits and four (4) hours of remote content creation. Onsite days are Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursdays.
