ORGANIZATION: Canham Farm Horse Rescue Inc.

  • 26 people are interested

We are in need of people to help out with general horse care. Duties include feeding horses, some mucking, interacting with horses (after volunteer training) and more depending on experience.

We are a self-sustaining non-profit that relies on donations and fundraisers to meet our expenses. These include paying for hay, vet and farrier visits, supplements, horse tack, and all utilities.

Our horse rescue has made a commitment to be open to anyone who wishes to be a volunteer, regardless of their finances, or their gender, ethnicity, or LGBTQ+. No one is turned away, but we do ask volunteers to pledge what they can to help keep our rescue afloat.

Currently we have a sliding scale of $10-$60 per volunteer per month, which allows us to meet a bare-bones budget. With that in mind, everyone pays according to their ability; some pay more, some pay less. We ask that your pledge be considered your commitment to helping rehabilitate these majestic, therapeutic animals.

You'll also receive on the job training, horsemanship classes, horse anatomy, and much more at no extra charge.

If you are interested in this small volunteer opportunity, please tell us a little about yourself and your experience if any with horses. Many of our rescue horses have been neglected, abused or suffered trauma at the hands of people. It is our job to help them trust humans again and provide stability in their lives so they can be adopted by loving people in the future.

We have years of experience helping troubled horses and consistency is key so we do require all volunteers to attend an orientation session before being considered, and for you to decide whether our rescue is a good fit for you.

Please visit our volunteer page at https://canhamfarm.com/donate-support/ Volunteer tasks include:

keeping horses stalls, paddocks clean and water buckets filled

general tidiness of the barn, hay shed, tack room

grooming and leading horses depending on ability

help with fundraising events, work days

Mission Statement

Welcome to Canham Farm Horse Rescue Since 2017 Canham Farm Horse Rescue (CFHR) has worked to help horses thrive. CFHR works locally and nationally to protect all horses from abuse, both physical and mental, neglect and slaughter. At every level, we collaborate with horse entities in the United States, California and specifically the around California’s Central Coast (Santa Cruz, Monterey and Santa Clara Counties) to develop and deliver solutions that protect domestic and wild horses in our care and in the natural places in which they live. How We Work For Horses, For People CFHR works to help local and national wild and domestic horses. We aim to protect and advocate for all equines to ensure their safety for now and forever. CFHR untilizes partners, our supporters in the United States, specifically in California’s Central Coast, as well as partnerships with communities, and companies, to ensure that horses have a voice and are taken care of lovingly for the rest of their lives. Some will be adopted by vetted adoptees, others will become part of our foster program. But all will be safe from abuse and neglect. Our financial assistance program ensures that a change in the circumstances of a horse’s guardian will not impact a equine’s quality of life due to the lack of funds to pay for veterinary and daily care. Embrace The Moment - Equine Assisted Therapy for Adults With Cancer offering a unique avenue to rediscover strength, hope and connection - one gentle hoofbeat at a time. Our dedicated board is supported by over 50 volunteers (and is growing) who are share a love of horses and all animals. Given our commitment to the welfare of animals in general we adhere to a "no animal products" being consumed at any of our events whether onsite or out in the community. CFHR works to create a diverse organization where all unique views, experiences, and backgrounds. We do not tolerate discrimination and harassment of any kind whether it is based on race, color, sex, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, genetic information, or pregnancy. This applies to all volunteers, staff, clients, donors and all those affilitated with CFHR. Recognizing that the problems facing equines are increasingly complex and urgent, CFHR focuses its work on ambitious goals. To challenge our equines greatest threats (humans) and ensure a healthy future for horses free from fear, abuse and hunger.

Description

We are looking for people who have knowledge of horses to come and help us care for them at our ranch. Additionally, we need fundraising help and people who are qualified to advise and help us run our Horses Helping Humans program.

Horses Helping Humans is a project aimed at anyone or group who may benefit from the therapeutic power of horses. The project caters to people suffering from anxiety, stress, addiction recovery, carers and their families, people dealing with difficult circumstances, seniors who are in need of a sense of community, people facing barriers to employment, people who are homeless, vulnerable youth and children and adults with physical limitations such as cerebral palsy, stroke and head injuries. All our sessions are tailored to individual needs, capabilities and aims.

Our sessions cover a range of activities with the horses and our horse rescue farm. Our aim is for participants to enjoy building a trusting partnership with the horse, while learning new skill overcoming obstacles that will help them in their daily lives.

We are also in need of horse friendly people to help care and advocate for our horses as well as people to help with social media marketing, fundraising, bookkeeping, corporate sponsorship, grant writing and other administrative duties.
