ORGANIZATION: Day Worker Center of Mountain View

  • 12 people are interested

The Day Worker Center is currently looking for volunteers to support starting an archival/history project about the Center. The project entails volunteers that can look through and inventory a few boxes of DVDS and other analog media. We also have binders full of news clippings and other pieces of the Day Worker Center's history (1997-2017). Another part of the project would be to work on new compilations for the missing period of 2018-present, to fill in that gap.

The inventorying part would have to be in person at the Center but for the research aspect, it can be done remotely. We can work with your schedule for either parts of the project.

Description

The Day Worker Center of Mountain View is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides job-matching services for hundreds of local homeowners and businesses annually. Work most often sought by employers includes yard work, house cleaning, moving, and painting. Established in 1996 by day workers, community of faith, elected officials, and leaders from local businesses, the Center serves the communities of Mountain View and the surrounding areas. In twenty-six years, the DWC has gone from a street-based operation to a core community institution with broad-based support that serves both the day worker community and the larger community.

The Center offers more than ten programs for community members. A few programs include: Job Placement, Outreach about workers rights, Healthy Meals, job skill classes, ESL classes, Spanish classes, Written Driver's License Class, and many more. In addition, the Center provides referrals to food, housing, clothing, and emergency assistance services.
