About Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society

Location:

3951 Orchard Lake Road, Orchard Lake, MI 48323, US

Mission Statement

The Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society enriches our communities by collecting, preserving, and sharing history. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization open to all!

Description

Our vision is that our communities will understand how our past shapes, inspires, and informs the present and the future. The Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society (GWBHS) began as the Orchard Lake Scenic and Historical Society on January 28, 1974. In May, 1978, the name was changed to the Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society to better reflect the organization’s focus on and inclusion of Orchard Lake, Keego Harbor, and Sylvan Lake.

The Orchard Lake Museum is the home of GWBHS. It holds our collections and permanent exhibits interpreting local area history and culture. In 1854, a structure was built as the Orchard Lake House and later renamed the Orchard Lake Hotel. It was razed and replaced in 1938 with the current structure and housed the Orchard Lake City Hall. In 1987, when a new city hall was constructed, the Greater West Bloomfield Historical Society was granted use of the building by the City of Orchard Lake Village.
