The volunteer opportunities are for assistance with Health Fair Screening Events. We would look to have medical laboratory techs and/or nursing student volunteers. We are willing to provide training and will work with med tech schools and Technical Schools to work out extra credit and training for their students.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to screen, educate, and serve youth and adult prediabetes individuals in underserved communities by providing biomarker screenings, health awareness and options for a healthy lifestyle change, with the expressed purpose to prevent Type 2 Diabetes. We provide the primary prevention tools, education, resources, and for those who are at higher risk of type 2 diabetes.

Description

Since 2019 we have participated in numerous health fairs in Mableton, GA, Decatur, GA, Smyrna, GA, Marietta, GA, Clarkston, GA, Jasper, GA, Cartersville, GA, Atlanta, GA, Canton, GA, and Roswell. GA where we performed Body Composition Analysis for attendees to identify those who were overweight or obese and had a family history of diabetes. Follow up activities included counselling and eating plan recommendations. In 2021 we provided Prediabetes Screening Events in where we provided biomarker screening for hemoglobin A1c, lipid profile (Including, Total Cholesterol, High Density Lipoprotein, Low Density Lipoprotein, Triglycerides, Non-HDL, and TC/HDL) and Fasting Plasma Glucose. Participants who were determined to have prediabetes were counselled and later invited to take part in the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program. In 2021, we were awarded Pending Status to present the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program. Our first cohort consisted of eight (8) participants for the year-long program. In 2021, Dr. Dorce provided a Six Segment ZOOM and in 2022 a Seven Segment ZOOM Educational Series on diabetes related topics for the Lions Club International North Dekalb Charter and the Atlanta Caribbean Lions Club International, respectively. In addition, monthly onsite Prediabetes Screening and Counselling Events have taken place in the Canton, GA office/laboratory. In 2023, Abundant Living Foundation, Inc. was granted Full Plus Recognition Status for the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program. We will soon begin our third cohort for that program.
