Digital Storytelling: Content Curation & Copy Writing

Apprenticeship (1 year) - 10 hrs/week. 480 hours. Go from novice to practitioner and be career-ready in writing for a variety of digital media and digital publications. As an apprentice, you will also learn how to support and manage entry-level practitioners. Apprentices are expected to be advanced in their skills and career-ready upon graduation.

Internship (6 months) - 10 hrs/week. 240 hours. Learn entry-level copy-editing skills and practice them while building the archive.

Internship (1 year) - 5 hrs/week. 240 hours. An ultra part time internship.



Internship Time Period


TWELVE MONTHS POSITION: Position once every year. Apprentice needs to commit a minimum of 10 hours each week. Minimum 12 months commitment

SIX MONTHS POSITION: Position opens every quarter. Intern needs to commit a minimum of 10 hours each week. Minimum 6 months commitment.

TWELVE MONTHS POSITION: Position opens once a year. Intern needs to commit a minimum of 5 hours each week. Minimum 12 months commitment.

Job Description

FOCUS: Content Editing

  • Learn advanced editorial skills for publishing sensitive content, especially witness narratives
  • Copy-edit and curate ​incredible life stories for publishing
  • Use storytelling techniques to curate content for various online platforms, including social media
  • Assist in developing strategic program for publishing to digital media sites


Job Requirements

  • Excellent written skills
  • A talent for forming and telling stories
  • Copy editing skills preferred but not required
  • Working knowledge and some previous experience of web/social media especially Twitter and Facebook
  • Strong passion for preserving history and raising awareness for Partition stories


Apprenticeship Expectations

The 1947 Partition Archive’s social media presence attracts high traffic and thus requires sophisticated management.

Only serious interns may apply for this position. Interns are expected to develop ownership of their projects and encouraged to develop creative solutions. Intern must have a strong passion for and dedication to our mission and goals. Interns will receive relevant training, fieldwork experience as well as guaranteed references for those who complete their internship term. Successful interns, at the end of their tenure, will be considered for any paid positions that may be available.

Interns may apply for academic credit or funding through their college or university.

All interns will be working remotely.

Nearly two million lost their lives and 15 million people were displaced, making it the largest mass migration. The 1947 Partition Archive (incubated by UC Berkeley’s Skydeck) is a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the fast disappearing memory of Partition by capturing and preserving the people's history through crowdsourced oral history collection.
