Volunteers will help with feeding chronically hungry elementary school-age children. Food Now provides backpacks filled with weekend meals and snacks for selected chronically hungry children to task home. Volunteers will be asked to help with all aspects of the feeding program. Shopping, sorting, filling backpacks, cleaning/sanitizing backpacks. There is no cost to the volunteer. Even program related mileage is reimbursed. We are looking for helps on Friday and Saturday mornings, 8am till around noon. The volunteer opportunity only while school is in session. August through June.

Description
Food Now provides supplemental food assistance and other support services for in-need families and individuals in and around Desert Hot Springs. The services we provide include:
Food Assistance: A healthy diet is a critical component to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Food Now provides a safe and secure source of healthy food for those who are economically disadvantaged.
Home Deliveries : Food Now provides home deliveries of weekly supplemental food for disabled veterans and others who are housebound due to a medical necessity.
Children’s Backpack Feeding Program: The Food Now Children’s Backpack Feeding Program is a cooperative between Food Now and the Palm Springs Unified School District and provides selected chronically hungry children with additional nutritional support on weekends.
Homeless Needs Program: Food Now provides homeless clients with a daily distribution of special ready to eat food packages which require no heating or refrigeration. Personal hygiene items are distributed as needed.
Companion Animal Feeding Program: Food Now provides weekly cat and dog food assistance for pet owners.
