Copy Editing Apprenticeship and Internship
Apprenticeship (1 year) - 10 hrs/week. 480 hours. Go from novice to practitioner as a copy editor. This position builds not only copy-editing skills but also content management skills in a large archival data set. As an apprentice, you will also learn how to support and manage entry-level practitioners. Apprentices are expected to be advanced in their skills and career-ready upon graduation.
Internship (1 year) - 5 hrs/week. 240 hours. Same as 6 months but an ultra part-time internship.

Remote position.
Job Description
- Learn to manage a team of international content editors
- Hone your advanced editorial skills for publishing sensitive content, especially witness narratives
- Supervise and verify copy-edited and curated ​incredible life stories for publishing
- Assist in developing strategic program for publishing to digital media sites
Job Requirements
- Excellent English written skills
- Degree in English Language required
- Copy editing skills required
- Strong passion for preserving history and raising awareness for the stories
Internship Expectations
The 1947 Partition Archive’s content attracts high traffic and thus requires sophisticated management. Only serious interns may apply for this position. Interns are expected to develop ownership of their projects and encouraged to develop creative solutions. Intern must have a strong passion for and dedication to our mission and goals. Interns will receive relevant training, fieldwork experience as well as guaranteed references for those who complete their internship term. This internship is unpaid but interns may apply for credit or funding through their college or university. Successful interns, at the end of their tenure, will be considered for any paid positions that may be available.
All interns will be working remotely.

The Partition of British India in 1947 was a major 20th century event that affected millions of lives and played a key role in shaping the world in which we live today, both culturally and geopolitically. Nearly two million lost their lives and 15 million people were displaced, making it the largest mass migration. The 1947 Partition Archive (incubated by UC Berkeley’s Skydeck) is a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the fast disappearing memory of Partition by capturing and preserving the people's history through crowdsourced oral history collection.
