Make an important difference by sharing your time with a patient receiving hospice or palliative care.

Provide an hour/week for companionship with a patient where they live: a residential home, an apartment or a room at an assisted living or memory care facility.
OR
Share 2-4hrs/ week to provide respite for a hospice patient's primary caregiver (their partner, son, daughter, friend) so they have a peace of mind, knowing their loved one has company. Respite enables caregivers the ability to leave their home for an appointment, to run errands or to take a break. Your support helps the caregivers reset and offer better care to their loved ones. You companion the hospice patient while their caregiver is gone but are not responsible or permitted to provide personal care.

  • No experience working with hospice and palliative patients is required, just a compassionate and teachable heart.
  • A thorough and interesting training is provided.
  • Once trained, volunteers will have access to opportunities and choose the patient assignment that works best for them.

Mission Statement

TRU Community Care (TRU) affirms life at every step of your journey with illness and loss. Our vision is to lead a healthcare transformation by engaging with our communities and offering innovative, meaningful care for those living with illness and loss.

Description

We were founded as Boulder Hospice in 1976 to provide expert medical, emotional, and spiritual care to terminally ill people and their families.

As Colorado's first hospice, we have long set the standard for care of those with advanced illness in our region. And we continue to lead the way today, with innovative programs that honor the choices, preserve the dignity and address the individual needs of the patients and families we are privileged to serve.

As a nonprofit, community effort, we provide our hospice care for everyone who needs us, regardless of ability to pay. With a focus on providing a continuum of care for members of our community living with advanced illness and loss, TRU’s programs include TRU Hospice, TRU PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly), TRU Palliative Care, Landmark Memory Care, and TRU Grief Services.
